Children Demanding Basic School Facilities Reflect ‘True Freedom’: Kejriwal on Independence Day

New Delhi, August 15, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Aam Aadmi Party National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday said children raising their voices over inadequate facilities in government schools was a reflection of “true freedom” on Independence Day.

In an Independence Day message on X, Kejriwal said August 15 had become “even more special” as children from different parts of the country were increasingly demanding basic facilities such as desks, clean drinking water, toilets and teachers in their schools.

In a video message, he said the younger generation was now speaking up about the condition of government schools and cited examples from several states.

“After Gen Z, now Gen Alpha has started raising its voice,” Kejriwal said, referring to reports of schoolchildren demanding improvements in their schools.

He said children in Hamirpur had begun protesting over the condition of the road outside their school, while students in Dehradun and Barmer were also raising concerns. Referring to Barmer, he said children were demanding teachers because there were no teachers available in some schools.

Kejriwal described the willingness of children to demand teachers and basic facilities as a positive development, but questioned the condition of government schools several decades after Independence.

He said economically weaker families often depended on government schools because they could not afford private education. He alleged that some government schools continued to suffer from damaged walls and roofs, water entering classrooms during rain, and inadequate toilets, drinking water and teaching staff.

“Children have no future,” he said while highlighting the problems he claimed existed in some government schools.

Kejriwal also criticised what he described as society’s acceptance of poor conditions in government schools, saying people would have to raise their voices for the system to change.

Citing the AAP’s governments in Delhi and Punjab, he said the party had worked to improve government schools in both states. He urged people to visit schools in Delhi and Punjab, claiming that students from these institutions were now appearing for NEET and JEE and pursuing careers as doctors and engineers.

Kejriwal called for collective efforts to improve government education and concluded his message by extending Independence Day greetings.
