The Bihar Vigilance Investigation Bureau on Wednesday conducted simultaneous searches at three premises linked to Satyendra Kumar Chaudhary, Superintending Engineer of the Purnea Division of the Building Construction Department, in a disproportionate assets case.
According to the Vigilance Department, teams searched two residential premises in Patna and an office-cum-residential premises in Purnea, recovering documents and records related to investments and movable and immovable properties allegedly worth crores of rupees.
A case was registered against Chaudhary under Vigilance Police Station Case No. 109/26, dated September 14, under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(b) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018.
The department has alleged that Chaudhary accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, putting the alleged disproportionate assets at Rs 1,97,58,070. The FIR identifies seven immovable properties in the names of Chaudhary, his wife Usha Devi and other family members.
According to the Vigilance Department, the properties were acquired between 2011 and 2025 and include a residential property with a constructed house in Phulwari Sharif, four land parcels in Naubatpur measuring about 74 decimals collectively, and another parcel in Danapur measuring around 7.18 decimals.
The identified immovable properties have been estimated at Rs 3,60,58,070, while movable assets are valued at approximately Rs 26 lakh. The department said the assets were around 68 per cent higher than Chaudhary’s known income.
During the searches, officials reportedly found a five-storey house in Phulwari Sharif equipped with a lift and solar panels, expensive furniture and around 10 air conditioners. The property will undergo formal valuation. A three-storey joint house in AG Colony will also be formally valued.
Officials also recovered or identified Rs 1 lakh in cash, gold, silver and diamond jewellery, documents concerning the seven properties, extensive investment records involving banks and LIC, a Hyundai car and information relating to a flat in Greater Noida.
The bureau obtained search warrants from the Special Court (Vigilance), Patna, before carrying out the operation. Three teams from Patna were deployed at the three premises.
The searches continued into the night, with officials examining seized documents, investment records and other material. The Vigilance Department said further action would follow after completion of the searches, property valuations and preliminary assessment.
