Megastar Amitabh Bachchan once again had the audience in splits on the quiz-based reality show Kaun Banega Crorepati as he spoke about his difficulty keeping up with Gen Z slang and changing popular expressions.
During a recent episode, the veteran actor and host humorously interpreted phrases such as “you are rocking” and “you are killing it” in their literal sense, highlighting how language has evolved across generations.
“Aaj kal ki… Gen Z hai ya Gen A hai, pata nahi kya bolte hain… Sir, ajeeb-ajeeb bhasha banti rehti hai… ‘You are rocking… Mr. Bachchan, you are rocking.’ Maine kaha yaar, ‘patthar toh humne abhi tak uthaya nahi.’ Woh chhap gai… woh kaat karke bhejega, bolega, ‘Sir, you are killing it.’ Maut ki baat kaahe kar raha hai yaar humse?” he said.
Bachchan has previously spoken about his struggle to understand the terminology and expressions commonly used by younger generations.
The actor recently came across another Gen Z expression, “Biwi Paglu”. After being told its meaning, Bachchan humorously agreed with the sentiment and said, “That’s absolutely right. She is the boss, and every husband should accept it. Live like this and you will survive, otherwise, you will be fired.”
At 83, Bachchan has spent more than five decades in the Hindi film industry. He is married to veteran actress and former Bollywood superstar Jaya Bachchan and is the father of actor Abhishek Bachchan. He is also the grandfather of Aaradhya Bachchan, who belongs to Gen Z.
