The Congress has accused the Centre of obstructing its mobilisation for the INDIA Bloc’s November 1 rally in Delhi, alleging that Indian Railways refused requests for special trains to transport party leaders and workers from Telangana.
AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal levelled the charge in a post on X on Wednesday, claiming that the Centre was attempting to prevent people from reaching the national capital for the opposition’s ‘Delhi Chalo’ march and rally at Ramlila Maidan.
Venugopal said the Congress had repeatedly sought special trains for its MPs, MLAs and party workers from Telangana but alleged that the requests were delayed and ultimately rejected.
In protest, Congress leaders and workers staged a demonstration at the South Central Railway General Manager’s office in Hyderabad, demanding that additional trains be arranged to accommodate those planning to attend the November 1 programme.
Venugopal accused the BJP-led government of trying to curb participation in the rally, which is part of the INDIA Bloc’s campaign against alleged electoral irregularities and what opposition parties describe as “Vote Chori”.
The opposition alliance has called on supporters from different states to gather in Delhi for the rally, where it plans to raise concerns over electoral processes and the functioning of the Election Commission.
The Congress maintains that the alleged denial of special trains would create logistical difficulties for participants and weaken the planned mobilisation.
However, the allegations had not been independently established, and railway authorities had not issued an immediate official response to the specific claims concerning requests from Telangana.
The dispute comes as opposition parties prepare for the rally, with the Congress pressing for travel arrangements to facilitate the participation of its leaders and workers.
