New Delhi, October 28, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Jamia Millia Islamia has condemned vandalism on its campus during protests on the night of October 27, expressing concern over damage to university property, security infrastructure and alleged threats against female faculty members.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the university said its proctorial team and faculty members reached the affected areas after receiving reports of the incidents.

According to the administration, groups of protesting students and local residents damaged gates and boundary walls, brought down Gate No. 4C, pelted stones and vandalised the CCTV control room and cameras, including cutting their connections. The university also alleged that masked protesters visited the boys’ hostel in an attempt to mobilise more people to join the agitation.

The administration said videos circulating on social media, including footage posted by protesters, showed extensive damage to university property.

It expressed particular concern that the vandalism began shortly after discussions between members of the protesting student committee and university faculty. The administration said the meeting was the seventh attempt at dialogue initiated by the university.

Jamia also alleged that female faculty members, wardens and the provost were threatened when they attempted to reason with female protesters, describing such behaviour as unacceptable and contrary to peaceful protest.

The university said the latest incidents followed several attempts over the preceding week to scale, damage or breach its gates and boundary walls. It added that videos, CCTV footage and social media posts indicated that iron rods, hammers and other tools had been used to damage infrastructure.

The administration warned that the destruction could compromise the safety of students and staff by affecting classrooms, laboratories, libraries, security systems and campus access routes.

Jamia had shifted to online operations under a notification issued on October 24, 2026.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police personnel and paramilitary forces remained deployed outside the university as concerns over campus security continued.
