Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang will host the 14th International Tourism Mart (ITM) from Thursday, bringing together more than 200 domestic and international tourism stakeholders to promote the Northeast as a destination and explore new business opportunities.
The three-day event, running from October 29 to 31, is being organised by the Union Ministry of Tourism in association with the Arunachal Pradesh government and other northeastern states.
Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Minister of State for Tourism Suresh Gopi and Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu are scheduled to attend the inaugural programme. Khandu inspected the venue on Wednesday and reviewed preparations with officials from the Centre and the state.
The mart is expected to attract 43 international buyers from 22 countries, alongside domestic buyers, tour operators, tourism service providers and sellers from the eight northeastern states.
Destination presentations by Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura will showcase regional attractions, cultural heritage, adventure tourism and opportunities to develop joint travel circuits.
Business-to-business meetings on October 30 will connect buyers with tourism businesses, while a meeting of tourism ministers from the northeastern states is scheduled to discuss development priorities and regional cooperation.
Technical sessions will examine the promotion of live events and concerts and ways to facilitate tourist access to Protected and Restricted Areas. A Royal Enfield presentation will explore experience-based travel opportunities in the region.
The North East Bazaar will feature traditional arts, handicrafts, textiles and cultural heritage, complemented by regional cuisine and cultural performances.
Delegates are also scheduled to visit attractions including Tawang Monastery, Jang Waterfall, Jaswant Garh War Memorial, Buddha Park and Pankang Teng Tso Lake. Familiarisation tours for international participants will begin from Guwahati on November 1.
The mart returns to Tawang after 13 years. The town hosted its second edition in 2013, while the previous edition took place in Gangtok, Sikkim, last November.
