Congress MP Manish Tewari on Wednesday questioned the BJP’s decision to organise a ‘Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy’ march, arguing that restoring voting rights should be the priority if the party wants to protect the Constitution.
Calling it a “strange irony” that the ruling party was holding a rally while the Opposition was protesting over voting rights, Tewari said the focus should be on addressing the concerns surrounding the electoral process.
“If you want to save the Constitution, restore the voting rights of the 13 crore people who have been deprived of them, and the Constitution will be protected,” he said.
His remarks came as BJP national president Nitin Nabin was scheduled to lead the foot march in Delhi’s Chandni Chowk on Wednesday. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, state BJP president Harsh Malhotra, MPs and other senior party leaders were also expected to participate.

Tewari also raised concerns about Punjab’s security situation, saying the state had been confronting the challenge of narco-terrorism for decades.

His comments came after the Punjab government reportedly denied permission for the seventh annual anti-drug marathon organised by the Jakhar Trust in Abohar, citing the prevailing law and order situation.
