Nakodar, October 28, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday announced that women would receive the next instalment of financial assistance under the Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna on November 1, saying the government was committed to returning public money to people through welfare schemes.

Addressing a Lok Milni programme at village Sarinh in Nakodar constituency of Jalandhar district, Mann said the government’s priorities included women’s empowerment, employment, education, healthcare and improved irrigation. He accused previous governments of misusing public resources and alleged that the BJP, Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal were threatening to discontinue welfare schemes.

“Our intentions are clear, and our policies are aimed at returning public money to the people,” Mann said, adding that assistance for women was a responsibility rather than a favour.

The Chief Minister cited the recruitment of 70,862 government employees over four-and-a-half years, claiming appointments had been made on merit without favouritism. He also highlighted education reforms, saying children from economically weaker families were increasingly gaining access to professional courses and competitive examinations.

Mann said 882 government-school students had qualified in NEET, compared with 80 in 2021. He also cited improvements in primary education and the training of teachers at institutions in Finland, Singapore and India.

On household relief, he said nearly 90 per cent of Punjab households were benefiting from the free electricity scheme. He urged eligible families to enrol under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana, adding that health cards had been issued to around 54 lakh families.

Highlighting agricultural measures, Mann said approximately 14,000 kilometres of irrigation pipelines had been laid, with 18,000 cusecs of water being supplied to agricultural fields through the irrigation network.

Taking aim at the Akali leadership, he said those who once claimed they would rule Punjab for 25 years were now struggling to mobilise public support. He also accused the Congress and BJP of cooperating politically to remove him from office, claims the opposition parties would be entitled to contest.

Mann said the people would ultimately judge political parties by their performance and decide Punjab’s future through their votes in the 2027 Assembly elections.
