Mumbai, October 28, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Lyricist Manoj Muntashir has said that he apologised to devotees of Lord Ram countless times for the mistakes he made with the 2023 film Adipurush and was forgiven, but urged critics not to question the film’s songs, asserting that they reflected “shraddha, samarpan aur kavitt” (devotion, dedication and poetic brilliance).

Muntashir took to X, formerly Twitter, to comment on Adipurush, directed by Om Raut and starring Prabhas, as well as Ramayana Part 1, headlined by Ranbir Kapoor.

Reacting to a comparison involving his work, the lyricist criticised what he described as an ignorant remark by a news channel.

“Manoj Muntashir wala kaarnama? Badi jahilon jaisi baat ki hai desh ke swayamghoshit sarvashreshth news channel ne. Mere bhai, kaash Ramayan ke geeton mein mera wala kaarnama dohraya jaata,” he wrote.

In the post, Muntashir expressed the wish that the songs in Ramayana would achieve the same level of impact as his work on Adipurush.

Acknowledging the shortcomings of the film, he said its overall execution and dialogues were poor but maintained that its songs continued to resonate with audiences.

“Adipurush bahut kharaab film thi, samvaad aur bhi kharaab the, lekin geet toh desh ka bachcha-bachcha gaata hai. Kabhi jaiye Shri Ayodhyapuri, gali-gali mein Adipurush ke hi geet baj rahe hote hain,” he said.

He claimed that songs from the film could still be heard across the streets of Ayodhya and were sung by children.

Addressing the criticism surrounding the film, Muntashir reiterated that he had repeatedly sought forgiveness from Ram devotees for his mistakes but maintained that the songs should be judged separately.

“Jo galti mujhse hui, maine uske liye anginat baar Ram bhakton se kshama maangi aur kshama mili bhi, lekin geeton ko challenge mat kariye. Unmein shraddha, samarpan aur kavitt ki koi kami nahi thi. Na maine Ram ke liye nursery rhymes likhin, na kawwaliyan. Aage log samajhdaar hain, jaante hain kaun kitne paani mein hai. Jai Shri Ram,” he wrote.

Muntashir said the songs were written with devotion and poetic intent, adding that he had neither composed nursery rhymes for Lord Ram nor written qawwalis for the film.

Adipurush also featured Saif Ali Khan, Kriti Sanon, Sunny Singh and Devdutta Nage. Despite the scale of its production and star cast, the film failed to perform as expected at the box office.
