Mumbai, October 28, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah has launched another sharp attack on the government, proudly embracing the label “Dimagi Naxal” in a video shared on his Facebook page on Wednesday.

In the video, Shah displayed his “Dimagi Naxal” badge, referring to a term used by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Independence Day address in August. The actor also invoked labels such as “anti-national” and “tukde-tukde gang” while commenting on the ongoing protests and drawing parallels with earlier demonstrations at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).

“I say with pride, I am a Dimagi Naxal. Apart from Dimagi Naxal, I don’t know what other titles the chowkidar has given to people like me, anti-national, tukde-tukde gang and what not. If there is any tukde-tukde gang in this country, then it is this illegitimate government,” Shah said in the video.

His latest remarks come amid the political controversy at Kolkata’s Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), where he previously criticised the BJP over its alleged political retaliation against dissenters and urged citizens to support protesting students.

The controversy at SRFTI intensified following clashes on September 27, 2026, between students and members of the RSS-linked Akhil Bharatiya Grahak Panchayat during a campus event. Subsequent protests and reports of alleged attacks further heightened tensions, with students demanding the resignation of Vice-Chancellor Santosh Ajmera and accusing the administration of failing to protect them.

The institute later suspended six students over alleged misconduct, prompting the students’ union to challenge the decision. Shah, along with filmmakers Payal Kapadia and Anand Patwardhan, expressed support for the protesters. The BJP criticised Shah’s remarks, while the institute’s administration alleged that outside forces had politicised the agitation.

Meanwhile, student-led protests have gathered momentum nationally, with the online party Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) intensifying its agitation and demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The movement opposes the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleging that the exercise has disenfranchised millions of voters. The Election Commission and the BJP have denied allegations of manipulation.

The CJP has also demanded electoral reforms and an independent inquiry into alleged irregularities in voter-list revisions. During a special hearing on Sunday, the Supreme Court reportedly observed that there would be no detention of protesters and that public transport would return to normal.
