Multiple rounds were fired at the residence of bookie Sahil Jain, alias ‘Google’, in Delhi’s Pitampura area, with police investigating a possible link to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and a suspected extortion demand.
According to officials, bullets struck a wall and a car parked nearby, but no injuries were reported in the incident.
Police said the targeted residence belonged to Sahil Jain, who has been accused of operating illegal call centre businesses. Jain had allegedly received a threat call from gangster Lawrence Bishnoi in 2021, and an audio clip purportedly featuring Bishnoi threatening him had circulated widely at the time.
Against this background, investigators are examining whether the latest shooting was carried out by members of the Bishnoi gang or another criminal group.
CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced, reportedly showing two assailants arriving on a motorcycle and opening fire at the residence. The shooters allegedly fired at a nearby parked car before fleeing the scene.
Investigators said six rounds were fired during the incident.
Police are also examining a possible extortion angle, with sources suspecting that the shooting may have been linked to an extortion demand. The motive and identities of the assailants remain under investigation.
According to police, Jain moved to Dubai in 2019 and returned to India in July this year.
Meanwhile, a social media post claiming responsibility for the attack in the name of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang has surfaced. Delhi Police are verifying the authenticity of the claim and investigating its connection, if any, to the shooting.
The incident comes months after a similar firing was reported outside RK Fitness, a gym on the Outer Ring Road in Delhi’s Paschim Vihar area, in January this year.
Officials said the earlier incident took place around 11 p.m., when two motorcycle-borne assailants allegedly fired two rounds into the air outside the gym before fleeing. No injuries were reported, and a case was registered in connection with the incident.
Police are continuing their investigation into the Pitampura shooting to establish the motive, identify the assailants and determine whether an organised criminal gang was involved.
