India’s Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Niraj Kumar missed out on individual medals in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions event at the 2026 Asian Games on Friday, finishing fifth and eighth respectively after helping the country secure team silver earlier in the day.
Aishwary finished fifth with 327.6 points, while Niraj ended the eight-man final in eighth place with 299.0. China’s Liu Yukun won gold with a Games-record 360.5 points, while Zhang Changhong claimed silver with 360.2. Kazakhstan’s Islam Satpayev took bronze with 348.3.
Aishwary remained in contention during the early stages. He was sixth after the prone series before moving up to fifth with 205.3 following the second kneeling series and eventually finished fifth.
Niraj endured a more difficult final and ended at the bottom of the standings among the eight finalists.
The result came after Aishwary, Niraj and Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil had combined to win silver in the team event. The Indian trio recorded 1762-94x, finishing behind China’s 1766-95x, while South Korea took bronze with 1751-87x.
Aishwary had enjoyed a highly successful campaign at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, winning four medals. He claimed gold in the men’s 10m air rifle team and 50m rifle 3 positions team events, besides individual bronze in the 10m air rifle and silver in the 50m rifle 3 positions.
Earlier on Friday, Suruchi Singh and Kamaljeet gave India its first shooting gold of the ongoing Games by winning the 10m air pistol mixed team event with an Asian-record 484.6 points.
According to the source material, India’s shooting tally stood at 10 medals — one gold, five silver and four bronze — while its overall Asian Games tally was 19 medals, comprising two gold, eight silver and nine bronze.
