Actor Ramandeep Yadav, who won attention with his portrayal of Rajjo in the crime thriller Raakh, is now exploring a markedly different character as Kinnu in the horror-comedy series Ali Baba Aur 40 Bhoot.
Ramandeep said the opportunity to play Kinnu has allowed him to demonstrate a different side of his acting range, something he believes is important for performers, particularly early in their careers.
“As an actor, you want to do different things. And obviously, when you have done the work of one zone, you want to see what variations you can put on in the market. That I can do different things,” he said.
The actor acknowledged that getting opportunities to break away from an established image can be difficult.
“Like you have done the character of one zone, people wait. That I have to do something different, I will not do the work of the same zone. I am very grateful that I got Kinnu, who is very different from Rajjo,” Ramandeep said.
He added that he does not want to completely stay away from the kind of intense roles he has previously taken up. Instead, he sees the challenge in bringing freshness to every character.
“And it is not that I do not want to do the work of the night zone. I want to do it. And that is the challenge for me that what freshness I am able to add in it. But yes, different things, as an artist, you always want to do different things,” he said.
Ramandeep also expressed a desire to explore romance on screen, indicating that he wants to broaden the range of characters and genres he takes up.
Ali Baba Aur 40 Bhoot combines elements of ancient folklore, supernatural mystery and adventure. The series stars Asha Negi as Ali and Vishal Vashishtha as Baba.
Set against the backdrop of Central Indian folklore, the 40-episode series follows Alisha “Ali” Nigam, a science-driven neuropsychology expert whose search for her missing father leads her into a world of supernatural mysteries. The series premiered on JioHotstar on September 11.
Ramandeep became widely noticed for his performance as Rajjo in Raakh, in which he portrayed a soft-spoken pickpocket whose character gradually takes a darker turn.
The crime thriller, featuring Ali Fazal, Sonali Bendre, Akash Makhija, Rakesh Bedi, Ramandeep Yadav and Aamir Bashir, was inspired by the Ranga-Billa case and revolves around the abduction of two siblings and the subsequent police investigation.
