The Punjab State Commission for Women has taken suo motu cognizance of a matter concerning alleged derogatory and objectionable remarks by Akali leader Virsa Singh Valtoha against a rape survivor, including the alleged disclosure of her identity.
Punjab State Commission for Women Chairperson Raj Lali Gill said the matter came to the Commission’s notice through a news report aired on television channels. The Commission has initiated action after taking cognizance of the report.
Gill said a letter has been issued to the Director General of Police and the Director, Bureau of Investigation, Punjab Police, along with the link to the news report/video and a screenshot of the report.
The police authorities have been directed to get the matter inquired into immediately through a senior officer and submit an action taken report to the Commission by September 26, 2026.
The Commission’s action follows the allegations reported in the television coverage and seeks an official inquiry into the matter.
