Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party-Ram Vilas leader Chirag Paswan has demanded stringent action against those accused in the alleged molestation of a minor girl in Bihar’s Samastipur, going a step further by calling for an encounter similar to the police action in the recent Jamui case.
The demand came after a video purportedly showing the girl being harassed surfaced on social media. Police have arrested four accused in connection with the incident and registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Information Technology Act.
Paswan condemned the incident as shameful and unfortunate, saying such cases raise questions about law and order and administrative accountability. He urged authorities to identify everyone involved and take stringent legal action.
Referring to the recent Jamui case, in which the main accused was injured in a police encounter, Paswan called for similar action against those accused in the Samastipur case. He said such stringent measures would reinforce the fear of law among criminals.
According to Samastipur Police, the video came to their notice during social media monitoring on the evening of September 23. Technical examination helped investigators identify the location as a road near the embankment in Jagatsinghpur village under Karpurigram police station.
Police said the incident had taken place on September 15. As the girl’s identity could not initially be established, a case was registered on September 24 on the statement of a police official. A special team subsequently arrested four accused within about six hours of receiving information about the incident.
The arrested accused have been identified as Vikas Kumar, Rahul Kumar, Rambabu Sahni and Awadhesh Paswan, according to police.
Authorities have appealed to the public not to circulate the video or any material that could reveal the identity of the girl, who is believed to be a minor. The investigation is continuing.
