Another video allegedly showing the harassment and molestation of a girl has surfaced in Bihar, with police launching an investigation after the footage was circulated on social media and reportedly linked to Mandar Hill in Banka district.
The video has been circulating for the past two days, prompting Bounsi police to register an FIR against six to seven unidentified youths and begin legal proceedings.
Police said the footage was received by the social media cell through WhatsApp. Following directions from senior officials, Bounsi Station House Officer Pankaj Kumar Jha visited Mandar Hill with a police team to verify the location.
During the preliminary inquiry, police confirmed that the footage was recorded at Mandar Hill. However, investigators suspect that the incident is not recent and may have taken place in April this year.
The video purportedly shows a group of six to seven unidentified youths allegedly behaving inappropriately with the girl. Police have not yet established the identities of those seen in the footage.
Investigators are questioning local villagers and shopkeepers around Mandar Hill to identify the individuals and ascertain when and under what circumstances the incident occurred.
The FIR was registered at Bounsi police station on the basis of a written complaint filed by SHO Pankaj Kumar Jha. The unidentified accused have been booked under Sections 74, 75, 76 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, besides Sections 66E and 67A of the Information Technology Act.
Police have preserved the video as evidence and are examining its source, the identities of those involved and the circumstances surrounding its recording and circulation.
The investigation comes amid similar cases involving alleged harassment of girls in Bihar’s Jamui and Samastipur districts.
Police have appealed to the public not to share the video or circulate any material that could reveal the girl’s identity.
