Actress-producer Richa Chadha has turned storyteller for her new show Musafiri, which explores the history, culture and lesser-known stories of Mumbai, a city she says is filled with narratives people grow up around but rarely pause to discover.
The first episode takes viewers through some of Mumbai’s intriguing landmarks and historical connections, including an unexpected link between global reality star Kim Kardashian and Kala Ghoda, one of South Mumbai’s best-known neighbourhoods.
Richa also delves into the origins of Mumbai and explores stories surrounding the city’s Gods and Goddesses, including Maa Mahalaxmi, regarded as the Mother Goddess of Mumbai.
“Mumbai has so many stories that we have grown up around but never really stopped to explore. With Musafiri, I wanted to discover those unique and unheard sides of the city and share them with people,” Richa said.
The episode further takes viewers to one of Mumbai’s oldest Armenian churches and examines the history of the Gateway of India, including the reasons behind its construction.
The actress-producer said she hopes the series will offer a fresh perspective even to people who have spent their entire lives in the city.
“I hope that even those who have lived in Mumbai all their lives will look at the city differently and feel like they are discovering a new Mumbai,” she said.
The first episode of Musafiri is being released on the Phullstop YouTube channel.
On the acting front, Richa was last seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. Set in Lahore’s Heera Mandi during the Indian independence movement, the series follows the lives of tawaifs against the backdrop of political and personal struggles under British colonial rule.
The ensemble cast includes Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Sharmin Segal and Taha Shah Badussha.
In films, Richa was last seen in Fukrey 3, directed by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba.
