Panic broke out at the ISKCON Temple in Jaipur’s Muhana area on Friday after a gas cylinder caught fire during Janmashtami celebrations, with several devotees present on the premises, officials said.
The flames spread towards the VIP pavilion, raising concerns that the fire could intensify, particularly because several other gas cylinders were reportedly kept nearby.
Muhana Police Station constable Kan Singh acted swiftly to contain the danger. As the burning cylinder posed a risk of triggering a larger fire, he entered the affected area and moved the cylinder away from the danger zone, helping prevent the flames from reaching other cylinders.
According to information from the spot, Kan Singh also helped several devotees move to safety despite the flames in the area. His prompt intervention helped prevent panic from escalating and reduced the risk of the fire spreading.
A fire brigade team was alerted and reached the temple premises soon after the incident. Firefighters brought the blaze under control before it could spread further.
The coordinated response by the police and fire brigade helped ensure the safety of devotees and prevented what could have developed into a major accident.
The incident took place hours before Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma was scheduled to visit the same ISKCON temple later on Friday evening for Janmashtami celebrations.
Following the incident, security and administrative teams were expected to maintain heightened vigilance at the temple ahead of the Chief Minister’s visit.
Constable Kan Singh’s presence of mind and his efforts to protect devotees were appreciated by people present at the spot. His timely action in removing the burning cylinder from the affected area helped avert the possibility of the fire spreading to the other cylinders and turning into a larger incident.
