Independence Day 2026: Two President’s Medals, 15 Meritorious Service Medals for Delhi Police Personnel

Seventeen Delhi Police officers and personnel have been selected for service medals ahead of Independence Day 2026, with two being named for the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM) and 15 for the Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM).

Additional Commissioner of Police Dinesh Kumar Gupta, IPS, and Sub-Inspector (Executive) Rajesh Kumar have been selected for the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service.

Gupta, a 2010-batch AGMUT cadre officer, has held several operational and specialised assignments during his career. He served as ACP in multiple subdivisions and as Additional DCP in various districts and units, including Railway, IGI Airport, Traffic, Recruitment Cell and Shahdara District. He also served in Arunachal Pradesh, where he handled local policing challenges.

In his current role as Additional Commissioner of Police (CP)/Traffic, Gupta has overseen traffic arrangements during major public events, religious gatherings, Parliamentary sessions and national ceremonies. He was previously awarded the MSM in 2018.

Rajesh Kumar joined the Delhi Police as a constable in 1988 and has completed nearly four decades of service. He played a key role in developing and maintaining the Quarter Allotment Cell website from its inception in 2010, helping streamline and bring greater transparency to government accommodation processes. He also served as the nodal officer for the Directorate of Estates and handled administrative responsibilities in Rohini District. He received the MSM in 2005.

Among the 15 MSM recipients are senior police officers, inspectors and other personnel recognised for contributions to crime prevention and investigation, technology-driven policing, law and order, public service and administration.

Joint Commissioner of Police Surender Kumar, IPS, has been recognised for his work in policing, immigration and internal security. He pioneered the e-Beat Book in the Delhi Police and contributed to initiatives including e-Beat Book 2.0, e-FRRO, cyber-fraud e-FIR integration and improvements to criminal databases. He also contributed to extradition operations and implementation of the new criminal laws.

Joint Commissioner Nupur Prasad, IPS, has been honoured for her leadership in policing, investigation and public-oriented initiatives. As the first DCP of Shahdara, she established the district’s policing framework and acted against drug networks and organised crime. Her career has also included assignments with the CBI, Arunachal Pradesh and West Bengal. She has promoted women’s self-defence, youth development, cyber safety and drug de-addiction programmes.

Other recipients include Inspector Rakesh Kumar Bhatt, recognised for scientific investigation and immigration-related work; Inspector Tara Dutt, for administrative and stenographic service; and Assistant Sub-Inspector Kailash Chand, for 36 years of service.

Woman ASI Anjana Kumari has been recognised for participating in operations against terrorists, gangsters and other serious offenders. ASI Satish Patil has been honoured for his contribution to major criminal investigations, including the arrest of a wanted terrorist, while ASI Anand Ballabh has been recognised for solving challenging cases and effective public dealings.

The MSM awardees also include ASI Pradeep Kumar Sharma, W/ASI Bindu, W/ASI Dinesh Kumari, W/HC Lalita, W/HC Sharmila, W/HC Pushpa Rani and Head Constable Vijay Singh. Their contributions span law and order, public assistance, administration, digital processes, record management and security duties.
