Jan Suraaj Party founder and Bankipur MLA Prashant Kishor has hit out at BJP MP and Union Textile Minister Giriraj Singh over his recent remarks concerning Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, warning him against making what he described as provocative and irresponsible statements.
Kishor said that while Singh’s controversial remarks were generally ignored, he would respond publicly if the Union Minister crossed what he considered the limits of political discourse. He further warned that he could disclose Singh’s “entire history” or life dossier if such statements continued.
The Bankipur MLA also accused Singh of backing Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary as part of an alleged strategy to consolidate Kushwaha votes in Begusarai. Kishor described the approach as caste-based politics and said voters would ultimately see through it.
Questioning Singh’s contribution to Bihar’s industrial development, Kishor said that despite holding the Textile portfolio at the Centre, the Union Minister had not established a major textile factory in the state.
Kishor also criticised what he alleged was Singh’s selective response to incidents of crime and sexual violence in Bihar. Referring to the alleged rape and murder of a NEET aspirant in Patna, he questioned Singh’s silence on such cases while accusing him of being vocal on religious and cultural issues.
Turning his criticism towards Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, Kishor alleged that Bihar’s law-and-order situation could not improve if the political leadership continued to tolerate criminal elements.
He also renewed his criticism of Bihar’s prohibition policy, claiming that the restrictions had contributed to increased narcotics use. Kishor reiterated his earlier warning that the state could eventually face a situation resembling “Udta Punjab” because of drug abuse.
Meanwhile, Kishor is scheduled to take oath as a member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly on August 17 at 10:30 a.m. He won the Bankipur Assembly by-election, securing 64,151 votes against BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha’s 44,827, a victory margin of 19,324 votes. RJD candidate Rekha Kumari polled 14,273 votes.
The Bankipur seat fell vacant after BJP leader Nitin Nabin moved to the Rajya Sabha. The constituency had traditionally been regarded as a BJP stronghold, making Kishor’s victory politically significant.
His oath-taking will formally mark his transition from political strategist and Jan Suraaj founder to an elected legislator in the Bihar Assembly.
