Operation Sindoor: Ajit Doval Reveals What PM Modi Asked After Pahalgam Terror Attack

Mumbai, August 14, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

National Security Adviser Ajit Doval has revealed the questions Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked immediately after the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, offering an account of the events and decision-making that preceded Operation Sindoor.

In his first on-camera interview on the military operation, Doval recalled Modi’s return following the attack and said the Prime Minister sought details of the incident before asking about the identity of those responsible.

According to Doval, the Prime Minister met officials at the airport and first sought a complete account of the facts. He then asked, “Who has done it?” and pressed for the identity of the perpetrators.

Doval said Modi was particularly keen to establish who was behind the attack and wanted the information at the earliest.

Praising India’s intelligence agencies, the NSA said they were able to identify the perpetrators within a short period. “Thanks to our intelligence agencies. I think they did a brilliant job, and within a very short time we were able to arrive at the conclusion,” he said.

On April 22, 2025, gunmen opened fire on tourists at Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district. The attack killed 26 civilians, mostly Hindu tourists, along with a local guide.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) subsequently attributed the attack to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and its affiliate, The Resistance Front (TRF).

India responded on May 7, 2025, with Operation Sindoor, under which the armed forces struck nine alleged terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Pakistan subsequently attempted drone and missile strikes against targets in India, amid a sharp escalation in tensions between the two countries. India’s air defence systems neutralised most of the incoming threats.

After nearly 88 hours of heightened military tensions, India and Pakistan reached a ceasefire agreement on the evening of May 10, 2025.

Doval’s account provides a fresh insight into the immediate response at the highest level of the Indian government following the Pahalgam attack and the intelligence assessment that preceded the military action.
