The Supreme Court Collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, has recommended the appointment of four judges as Chief Justices of the Patna, Calcutta, Bombay and Punjab and Haryana High Courts.
According to a statement issued by the Supreme Court, the recommendations were made at the Collegium’s meeting held on August 6, 2026.
Justice V. Kameswar Rao of the Delhi High Court has been recommended as Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, while Justice Ravindra V. Ghuge of the Bombay High Court has been recommended for appointment as Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court.
The Collegium has also recommended Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi of the Allahabad High Court for elevation as Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.
For the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the Collegium has recommended Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra, who is currently serving at the High Court and has the Allahabad High Court as his parent court, for appointment as Chief Justice.
In a separate resolution, the Collegium recommended the transfer of two High Court judges.
Justice Manash Ranjan Pathak, whose parent High Court is Gauhati, has been recommended for transfer from the Orissa High Court to the Gujarat High Court. Justice Krushna Ram Mohapatra has been recommended for transfer from the Orissa High Court to the Chhattisgarh High Court.
The recommendations will now be processed by the Centre in accordance with the existing memorandum of procedure governing the appointment and transfer of High Court judges.
The Collegium’s latest recommendations come as part of the Supreme Court’s constitutional role in recommending appointments and transfers within the higher judiciary.
