Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed officials to assist cricketer Rishabh Pant with his request to purchase land in the state for building a home, subject to applicable rules and regulations.
Pant had tagged Dhami in a social media post late Friday night, seeking help in finding suitable land in the hills as he plans to shift his base from Delhi to his home state.
Responding to the India wicketkeeper-batter, Dhami described Pant as a pride of Uttarakhand and praised his achievements on the national and international stage.
“Dear Rishabh, you are the pride of Uttarakhand. Through your magnificent sporting performance and achievements, you have brought glory to ‘Devbhoomi’ on both the national and global stages,” Dhami said.
The Chief Minister added that officials had been instructed to look into Pant’s request and would contact him to provide assistance in accordance with the rules.
Pant, who is currently in Sri Lanka with the Indian cricket team, said he had been trying to purchase land to move his base from Delhi to Uttarakhand but had been unable to find a sufficiently large and suitable property.
“I love my Uttarakhand. My humble request,” Pant wrote while tagging Dhami.
In a subsequent post, Pant clarified that he was not seeking land as a gift. Instead, he said he wanted permission to purchase land from the government at applicable government rates so that he could build his first house in his home state.
“A gift would be lovely for representing our state at the highest level internationally, but if you allow me, I wanna buy it from Government and on their rates,” Pant wrote, adding that he was unsure how to proceed with the process.
Pant’s request has drawn attention because his family already owns a house in Roorkee, Uttarakhand. However, the cricketer has expressed a desire to establish his own residence in the hills.
The Chief Minister’s response is expected to set the process in motion, with concerned officials likely to contact Pant to discuss the matter.
Pant, who hails from Uttarakhand, has represented Delhi in domestic cricket and has gone on to become one of India’s leading wicketkeeper-batters.
