The Gujarat Police will route all telephonic traffic-related complaints through the national emergency helpline 112 from August 1, replacing the existing toll-free traffic complaint number as part of the Centre’s Emergency Response Support System (ERSS).
Under the new system, citizens can register traffic-related complaints, suggestions and representations by dialling 112. The existing toll-free traffic helpline, 1800 233 1122, has been integrated with the ERSS after receiving a relatively low volume of complaints, the State Traffic Branch said on Friday.
The move is aimed at bringing traffic complaint services under the single nationwide emergency response platform to improve accessibility and response time.
In a statement, the State Traffic Branch said that while the telephone complaint system has been integrated with the 112 helpline, all existing online and app-based platforms for reporting traffic issues will continue to operate without any changes.
The police have appealed to the public to use the 112 helpline for all future traffic-related assistance and cooperate in ensuring smooth traffic management across the state.
The announcement comes ahead of the India Meteorological Department’s forecast of heavy rainfall in parts of Gujarat. Police said motorists would also be able to use the 112 helpline to seek immediate assistance in case of rain-related traffic disruptions caused by waterlogging, fallen trees or other emergencies.
According to the State Traffic Branch, the integration will simplify access to emergency services by enabling citizens to use a single number instead of multiple helplines for urgent assistance.
