The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday accused Opposition parties, particularly the Congress, of exploiting students’ concerns over the alleged NEET paper leak for political purposes instead of participating in a parliamentary discussion on the issue.
The BJP’s remarks came after Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said that the Opposition would not engage in discussions until Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was removed from office.
BJP MP Anurag Thakur said the Narendra Modi government had prioritised students’ welfare and was prepared to discuss examination reforms in Parliament. He alleged that the Opposition was using the issue for political gains rather than contributing to solutions.
BJP MP Harsh Vardhan Shringla echoed the charge, claiming that the students’ movement had been appropriated by Opposition parties for political interests. He said the government had agreed to hold discussions on examination-related concerns, but the Opposition had shifted its demands.
Shringla also referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent outreach to students and the government’s proposed measures to curb paper leaks, including stricter legal provisions and systemic reforms.
Targeting the Congress, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey alleged that the party was attempting to derive political mileage from the agitation after it gained nationwide attention.
BJP MP Manoj Tiwari accused the Opposition of disrupting Parliament instead of supporting efforts to address students’ concerns, while BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj said meaningful solutions could only emerge through discussions in the House.
BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh also alleged that Opposition leaders were attempting to politically capitalise on the students’ agitation.
The controversy over the alleged NEET paper leak has triggered protests across several parts of the country, with students demanding accountability and reforms in the examination system.
