The ongoing nationwide protests over the alleged NEET paper leak spread to Jaipur on Friday, with scores of students and competitive exam aspirants staging a demonstration at Patrika Gate near Jawahar Circle.
The protesters raised slogans against the alleged paper leak and demanded greater accountability in the examination system. Carrying banners and placards, they called for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and strict action against those responsible for the alleged irregularities.
The protest remained peaceful, with participants reiterating their demand for a transparent investigation and reforms to ensure fair and credible recruitment and examination processes.
The Jaipur demonstration comes as student and youth organisations continue their agitation at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, where protests over the NEET paper leak and examination irregularities have been underway since June 20.
Meanwhile, Rajasthan leaders Ravindra Singh Bhati, Independent MLA from Sheo Assembly constituency, and Nirmal Chaudhary, former president of the Rajasthan University Students’ Union, joined the protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi to express solidarity with the students. Both urged the Centre to engage with protesters through dialogue and address their concerns.
The protests intensified after demonstrators marching towards Parliament reportedly faced police action, including lathi-charge and tear gas, prompting similar demonstrations in several states.
Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk ended his 26-day hunger strike on Thursday after discussions with Union Ministers J.P. Nadda and Jitendra Singh. Following the development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated the government’s commitment to tackling examination paper leaks through stricter legal provisions, fast-track courts and measures aimed at strengthening the integrity of the examination system.
