Punjab Cabinet Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal on Friday launched ‘Mission Hariyali 2026’, an environmental campaign aimed at planting 9 lakh saplings across the state to promote green cover and environmental conservation.
The campaign, initiated by Apna Punjab Foundation, was launched during an event at the SEABA School campus in Lehragaga.
During the programme, Goyal distributed saplings among students and encouraged them to plant trees and ensure their proper care. He said environmental protection is one of the biggest challenges of the present time and requires active participation from every citizen.
The minister stressed that planting saplings alone is not enough and that nurturing them until they grow into healthy trees is a collective responsibility.
Appreciating the initiative of Apna Punjab Foundation, Goyal said the systematic plantation and monitoring of 9 lakh saplings across Punjab would help create greater environmental awareness and strengthen people’s connection with nature.
He also praised SEABA School for promoting social responsibility, environmental awareness and practical life skills among students. He urged students to plant at least one sapling and take responsibility for its maintenance.
Kanwaljit Singh Dhindsa, Founder Member of Apna Punjab Foundation and Managing Director of SEABA School, said the objective of the campaign was to turn environmental conservation into a people’s movement.
He informed that saplings would be planted across different districts of Punjab with regular monitoring and maintenance to improve their survival rate.
Goyal later inaugurated the campaign by planting a sapling in the school’s Herbal Garden and reiterated the message of environmental conservation.
Several officials, school management members, teachers, students and other dignitaries attended the event.
