Shiromani Akali Dal Punar-Surjit has announced the formation of its Youth Akali Dal leadership team, with party president Giani Harpreet Singh directing the restructuring of the youth wing to connect and organise young supporters across Punjab.
In a statement, party Secretary General Gurpratap Singh Wadala said the newly appointed team has been tasked with strengthening the Youth Akali Dal from the state level to district and booth levels within 15 days.
Wadala announced that Gurjit Singh Talwandi has been appointed to lead the Youth Akali Dal. He said Talwandi belongs to a family with a long association with the Shiromani Akali Dal and is the grandson of former SAD and SGPC president Jathedar Jagdev Singh Talwandi and former minister and SGPC member Randhir Singh Cheema.
Talwandi has previously served as the party’s chief spokesperson. He is a law graduate and has also completed an M.A. in International Political Relations from the University of London.
Wadala said several other young leaders from across Punjab have also been included in the new team. He added that the leadership will tour the state, mobilise youth support and prepare the organisational structure of the Youth Akali Dal in consultation with senior party leaders.
Advocate Surtej Singh Bassi has been appointed Secretary General and Chief Spokesperson of the youth wing.
The senior vice presidents include Jatinder Singh Paharipur, Gursewak Singh Manyana, Charanjit Singh Mavi, Navinderpreet Singh Longowal and Varinder Singh Chahal.
The general secretaries appointed are Gurjit Singh Sona (Nihal Singh Wala), Ravinder Singh Shahpur, Satnam Singh Satta, Amit Sethi Balachaur and Satinder Singh Riar.
Wadala expressed confidence that the new team would work towards expanding and strengthening the party organisation among the youth.
