Veteran actress Aruna Irani has shared an interesting behind-the-scenes memory from the making of the 1972 cult classic Bombay to Goa, recalling how a young Amitabh Bachchan initially struggled with a dance sequence during the film’s shoot.
Aruna said that when Amitabh Bachchan was cast as the lead actor in the film, he was still new to the industry and was not comfortable with dance movements. She revealed that the first day’s shooting for a song sequence had to be cancelled as he could not perform the choreography properly.
According to the actress, Bachchan rehearsed extensively before returning for the shoot the next day, where he delivered a performance that surprised everyone.
“He didn’t know how to dance at all initially. The shoot had to be cancelled on the first day because he could not do the movements correctly. After rehearsing, he performed so well the next day that it felt like magic,” Aruna recalled.
She also shared details about the filming of the iconic bus sequence from the film. Aruna said the team travelled by bus to Belgaum during the initial schedule and later shot the song on a specially created bus set in Madras.
She added that the entire song was completed within three days, with only one day being lost due to the initial difficulties.
Released in 1972, Bombay to Goa went on to become a cult classic, remembered for its entertaining storyline, popular songs and memorable comic performances by actors including Mehmood and Tun Tun.
Meanwhile, Amitabh Bachchan continues to remain active in the entertainment industry and is set to return with the upcoming season of the quiz reality show Kaun Banega Crorepati, with filming scheduled to begin in August.
