Opposition rejects PM Modi’s paper leak assurance, continues demand for Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation

New Delhi, July 24, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Opposition parties on Friday questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s assurance of strict action against exam paper leaks, maintaining that accountability can only be established through the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The Opposition’s reaction came a day after Prime Minister Modi said the government would introduce stronger measures, including a strict law and fast-track courts, to deal with those involved in examination irregularities.

Congress MP P. Chidambaram questioned the effectiveness of fast-track courts, arguing that the judicial system already faces a shortage of judges and staff.

“What is the use of fast-track courts when there are not enough judges to fill the existing courts?” he asked, adding that a fast-track court requires judges, court staff and infrastructure.

Several Opposition leaders reiterated their demand for Pradhan’s resignation, alleging that the Education Minister should take responsibility for the irregularities surrounding competitive examinations.

Congress MP Manoj Kumar said the Prime Minister should clarify when action would be taken against the Education Minister, while party colleague Jebi Mather said assurances would not satisfy students without accountability.

Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad also questioned why the NDA leadership had not sought Pradhan’s resignation, saying the government should first address accountability before reaching out to protesting students.

Trinamool Congress MP Kirti Azad criticised the Prime Minister’s assurance, while party colleague Saugata Roy said the Opposition’s demand for Pradhan’s resignation remained unchanged.

Meanwhile, BJP MP Madan Rathore welcomed the Prime Minister’s announcement, saying the proposed law would help prevent future paper leaks and make examination systems more secure.
