The Uttar Pradesh government is planning to build a new state-of-the-art Vidhan Bhawan in Lucknow, with construction expected to begin early next year. The proposed legislative complex will feature a lotus-inspired design and will be developed over nearly 200 acres in Gomti Nagar.
According to sources, the design has been finalised after evaluating proposals submitted by 48 leading consultancy firms. The proposal has been agreed upon by the concerned departments and is awaiting final approval. The layout has also been submitted to the Lucknow Development Authority.
The new legislative complex will replace the existing Vidhan Bhawan as the primary venue for the state’s legislative business. Viewed from above, the main Assembly building is designed to resemble lotus petals, with the central section housing the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council chambers. Administrative offices and other support facilities will be built around the central structure.
The integrated complex is planned with modern infrastructure to meet future legislative and administrative requirements. It will include a Legislative Assembly hall with seating for 700 members, a Legislative Council chamber with 200 seats, a joint session hall accommodating 1,000 members, and parking space for more than 5,000 vehicles.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s adviser, Awanish K. Awasthi, shared images of the proposed structure on social media, describing it as a new architectural landmark for Lucknow.
He said the project reflects the state’s vision of modern governance and future-ready infrastructure and is expected to become a prominent addition to the capital’s skyline upon completion.
