PAU Alumnus Arshpreet Singh Awarded Prestigious ARPPIS PhD Research Fellowship at ICIPE

Arshpreet Singh, an alumnus of the Department of Entomology at the College of Agriculture, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), has been awarded the prestigious African Regional Postgraduate Programme in Insect Science (ARPPIS) PhD Research Fellowship at the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE), Nairobi, Kenya.

Under the fellowship, Singh will pursue doctoral research on “Classical biological control of the invasive Red Palm Weevil (Rhynchophorus ferrugineus)” under the supervision of Dr. Shepard Ndlela, Abdelmutalab Azrag, Rehema Gwokyalya and Samira Mohamed.

His research will focus on identifying and evaluating natural enemies of the invasive pest and studying their ecological interactions to develop sustainable biological control strategies.

Singh completed his M.Sc. in Entomology at PAU in 2024 under the guidance of Dr. Manmeet Brar Bhullar, Principal Acarologist-cum-Head, Department of Entomology. His postgraduate research focused on the bioecology of sugarcane mites.

Congratulating the scholar, Dr. Charanjit Singh Aulakh, Dean, College of Agriculture, and Dr. Vishavjeet Singh Hans, Dean, Postgraduate Studies, praised his achievement and wished him success in his future academic and research pursuits.

PAU Vice-Chancellor Dr. S.S. Gosal said the fellowship reflects Singh’s academic excellence and research potential and brings recognition to the Department of Entomology and Punjab Agricultural University.

ICIPE, based in Nairobi, is an internationally recognised research institute in insect science and a CGIAR research partner known for its work in sustainable agriculture, biological control and insect science.
