Uzbekistan conferring its highest honour on Prime Minister Narendra Modi has drawn praise from political leaders across party lines, with BJP leaders and allies describing the recognition as a matter of pride for Indians and a reflection of India’s growing global standing.
Modi was conferred the ‘Oliy Darajali Do’stlik’ Order, Uzbekistan’s highest honour, by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Tashkent a day earlier in recognition of his contribution to strengthening bilateral relations.
BJP leader Narottam Mishra said the honour should be viewed as a recognition of the country rather than the BJP alone.
“This is a matter of pride for every Indian citizen, not just for the Bharatiya Janata Party. Modi ji is a world leader and the Prime Minister of India, who has been honoured by many countries around the world. We are all proud of him,” Mishra said.
BJP MLA Gopal Bhargava also welcomed the honour, saying it represented recognition for Indians as a whole.
Shiv Sena spokesperson Shaina NC described the recognition as a reflection of international appreciation for India and Modi’s leadership.
“This is not just an award; it is a world salute to Bharat,” she said, congratulating Modi and Indians while linking the honour to efforts to strengthen civilisational ties with Central Asia.
Bihar Minister Mithilesh Tiwari said Modi’s foreign policy had influenced countries around the world and that the reception accorded to him internationally enhanced India’s prestige.
The Uzbek honour adds to a growing list of international recognitions received by Modi. According to the source material, he has received more than 30 prestigious international honours spanning state decorations, scholastic awards and environmental accolades from countries and organisations worldwide.
In July, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto conferred Indonesia’s highest honour, the ‘Bintang Adipurna of the Republic of Indonesia’, on Modi.
The latest recognition comes as India and Uzbekistan continue to deepen bilateral engagement, with the honour specifically acknowledging Modi’s contribution to strengthening ties between the two countries.
