Ukraine will have to pay a price for its recent strikes on Russia, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Monday, as Russian forces continue attacks on targets they consider appropriate.
“The President (Vladimir Putin) also spoke about this — Ukraine will have to pay a price for the actions that have taken place in recent months. That is what is happening now,” Peskov said during his briefing.
He added that Russian armed forces were continuing their “special military operation” and were “consistently striking” targets identified as appropriate.
Peskov also called for the resumption of arms-control negotiations between Russia and the United States, saying the talks were long overdue.
“Talks on arms control need to be resumed, as they say, yesterday,” he said, arguing that arms-control issues had been left exposed after losing their international legal framework.
According to the Kremlin, Monday’s briefing also covered the meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, as well as Russia’s relations with Serbia.
Earlier this month, Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks in Moscow with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov described the discussions as substantive, constructive and extremely frank.
Ushakov said Putin had reaffirmed Russia’s readiness to continue working with the US to seek political and diplomatic solutions to issues related to Ukraine. He said the Russian side had presented its assessment of developments surrounding the conflict and stressed the need to address what Moscow considers the “root causes” of the conflict.
Ahead of those talks, Peskov had said Putin ordered a three-day halt to strikes against Kyiv while cautioning against speculation over possible settlement proposals.
