Former Haryana Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Hooda on Monday raised concerns over unemployment, drug abuse, firearms and forced migration among the state’s youth, blaming the policies of the BJP-led government for the challenges.
Hooda alleged that Haryana’s unemployment situation was pushing young people towards drug abuse and crime, while others were leaving the state or the country in search of jobs.
“This is because the government has pushed Haryana to the number one spot in unemployment. Frustrated by joblessness, young people are increasingly falling prey to the clutches of drug abuse and crime. Those who manage to escape this quagmire are forced to leave the state or the country in search of employment,” Hooda said.
The Congress leader made the remarks during visits to Pakasma, Kasrenti, Morkheri, Atayal, Dhatod and Ghizhi villages, where he was welcomed by residents.
Hooda said he was visiting villages across his constituency to seek people’s views on his future political course. He told villagers that he would either step back from active politics or launch a fresh campaign against the BJP, depending on their guidance.
“I am visiting all the villages in the constituency to seek guidance from the people regarding my future political course. If the people of my constituency tell me to sit back and relax at home, I will do so; but if they instruct me to launch a new struggle against the BJP, I will fight with full vigour,” he said.
According to the statement, villagers raised their hands in support of Hooda and urged him to begin a new political struggle, assuring him of their backing. Hooda thanked them for their support and said people across different sections of society had become disillusioned with the BJP government.
He also alleged that the BJP government had come to power through “vote theft and collusion with the Election Commission” and claimed it had few achievements to show across Haryana.
“From Palwal to Panchkula and Faridabad to Fatehabad, the BJP has not a single achievement to showcase across Haryana,” Hooda said.
Contrasting the BJP’s tenure with the Congress government’s 2005-2014 term, Hooda said his government had established several educational, medical and research institutions that continue to serve the public.
Listing projects he attributed to the Congress government, Hooda cited the National Institute of Fashion Technology in Panchkula, the National Institute of Design in Kurukshetra and Kalpana Chawla Medical College in Karnal.
In Sonipat, he highlighted the establishment of Bhagat Phool Singh University for Women, a medical college, an IIT extension centre, the Indian Institute of Information Technology, the National Institute of Food Technology, Rajiv Gandhi Education City, National Law University and CR University of Science and Technology.
He also cited the Indian Institute of Management, the University of Visual and Performing Arts, the Footwear Design and Development Institute and the Institute of Hotel Management in Rohtak, along with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences and the National Cancer Institute in Jhajjar.
Hooda further said the Congress government had overseen the construction of the Rohtak-Rewari and Jind-Sonipat railway lines, secured approval for the Hisar railway line and connected four cities through metro services.
He argued that the BJP government had not delivered comparable infrastructure and institutional projects in the state.
