India’s Neeru Dhanda, Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer won the silver medal in the women’s trap team event at the Asian Games on Tuesday, taking the country’s shooting medal tally to 13.
The Indian trio finished with a combined score of 328 after three days of the 125-shot qualification round to secure second place ahead of Kuwait. China won the gold with an aggregate score of 346, while Kuwait took bronze with 325 at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery.
Neeru also qualified for the women’s individual trap final after finishing joint-top in qualification with a score of 118.
Aashima and Manisha, however, missed out on the individual final. Aashima scored 106 to finish 16th, while Manisha recorded 104 to place 23rd.
The men’s trap qualification and team event are also underway, with India’s Kynan Chenai, Shapath Bharadwaj and Azhar Rizvi in action.
The silver added to India’s shooting medals at the ongoing Games. On Monday, Esha Singh narrowly missed out on gold in the women’s 25m pistol event, settling for silver after a dramatic shoot-off.
Esha and China’s Xiao Jiaruixuan were tied at 38 hits after 50 shots, matching the Asian Games record and forcing a shoot-off for the gold medal. Both shooters hit four of their five targets in the first shoot-off, before Xiao prevailed 3-2 in the second to claim the title.
The silver was Esha’s second consecutive Asian Games medal in the women’s 25m pistol. She had also finished runner-up at Hangzhou 2023, where she helped India win team gold alongside Manu Bhaker and Rhythm Sangwan.
Of India’s 13 shooting medals at the ongoing Games, only one is gold. Kamaljeet and Suruchi Singh won the mixed 10m air pistol gold with a strong performance.
India’s overall medal tally at the Games stands at 46, comprising four gold, 21 silver and 21 bronze medals.
