At least seven people were injured after unidentified assailants opened indiscriminate fire on an SUV outside a police station in Charkhi Dadri city of Haryana on Thursday, in what police suspect to be a case linked to gang rivalry.
According to police, three armed attackers intercepted a Scorpio SUV carrying seven occupants and allegedly fired more than 30 rounds before fleeing the scene on foot while brandishing revolvers.
The incident occurred in broad daylight near the police station, triggering panic among commuters and local residents. Eyewitnesses said the sudden burst of gunfire created chaos, with passersby scrambling for safety.
The injured were initially taken to the Civil Hospital in Charkhi Dadri for first aid before being referred to PGIMS Rohtak as several of them were reported to be in critical condition.
The injured have been identified as Ankit (Charkhi Dadri), Kirtiman (Hisar), Suraj, Ankit (Bhiwani), Sunny (Hisar), Krishan (Mahendragarh) and Amit (Fatehgarh).
Police said preliminary investigations indicate that the attackers arrived on a motorcycle, blocked the Scorpio’s path and opened fire after forcing the vehicle to stop. The motive behind the attack is yet to be officially established, though investigators suspect it may be linked to an ongoing gang rivalry.
Senior police officers, including the Superintendent of Police, reached the spot soon after the incident. The area was cordoned off, and a forensic team collected bullet shells and other evidence from the scene.
Investigators are also examining CCTV footage from nearby locations to identify the attackers and reconstruct the sequence of events.
