Prof. (Dr.) Yadwinder Singh Brar on Thursday assumed charge as the officiating Vice-Chancellor of I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU) after the Punjab Government entrusted him with the additional responsibility of the vacant post.
The Department of Technical Education and Industrial Training, Government of Punjab, issued the order assigning the additional charge to Prof. Brar, who is currently serving as Dean Academic and Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering at the university. He succeeds Dr. Susheel Mittal, whose tenure as Vice-Chancellor has concluded.
On assuming office as the university’s 20th Vice-Chancellor (Officiating), Prof. Brar expressed gratitude to Punjab Governor and University Chancellor Gulab Chand Kataria, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Technical Education and Industrial Training Minister Harjot Singh Bains, University Board Chairman Anoop Bector, and other dignitaries for reposing confidence in him.
A distinguished academic in the field of Electrical Engineering, Prof. Brar hails from Moga district and earned his engineering education from Panjab University, Chandigarh. With 34 years of experience in teaching, research and academic administration, he has served on the faculties of Giani Zail Singh College of Engineering & Technology, Bathinda, and Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana.
Prof. Brar has guided thousands of engineering students, many of whom have established successful careers in India and abroad. He has also authored more than 200 research papers in his field.
To mark the occasion, the university organised the recitation of Sri Sukhmani Sahib followed by an Ardas at the Vice-Chancellor’s Secretariat, seeking blessings for the institution’s progress, students’ academic success and the welfare of society.
The University Officers’ Association and Employees’ Association welcomed Prof. Brar on his appointment.
Among those present were Registrar Dr. Navdeepak Sandhu, Dean (R&D) Dr. Parveen Bansal, Dean Student Welfare Dr. Satbir Singh, Controller of Examinations Dr. Paramjit Singh, Finance Officer Dr. Sukhbir Walia, along with faculty members, university staff and students.
