The Women Safety Wing of Hyderabad Police on Thursday began questioning trainee IPS officer M. Uday Krishna Reddy in connection with a sexual assault case registered by a fellow trainee officer.
The accused officer was taken into police custody from Chanchalguda Central Jail a day after a court granted two days’ custody for interrogation. He was subsequently shifted to Attapur Police Station, where a team headed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Lavanya Naik is questioning him.
The interrogation is expected to continue on Friday as investigators believe custodial questioning may help collect crucial evidence related to the case.
The First Class Additional Judicial Magistrate of Ranga Reddy district at Rajendranagar had on Wednesday allowed police custody of Uday Krishna Reddy for two days. Earlier, he was sent to 14 days of judicial custody on July 29 and had been lodged at Chanchalguda Central Prison.
A woman batchmate of Reddy at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA), Hyderabad, filed a complaint against him on July 18. Based on her complaint, police registered a case at Attapur Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act.
The charges include provisions related to sexual assault, harassment, criminal intimidation, stalking, defamation, wrongful confinement and offences involving electronic content.
Police said their investigation indicated the accused trainee officer’s alleged involvement in the offences mentioned in the complaint. He was taken into custody on July 28.
According to police, the accused allegedly threatened to make private conversations public after the victim ended their relationship and married another person.
Reddy, who earlier served as a police constable in Andhra Pradesh, cleared the UPSC examination and joined the Indian Police Service as part of the 2025 batch. He has been undergoing training at SVPNPA since December 2025.
Police said the accused and the complainant came in contact through Instagram in mid-2025 after she responded to a post about his journey towards becoming an IPS officer.
Investigators have alleged that during his training period at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) and SVPNPA, their relationship was marked by repeated disputes, emotional pressure and possessive behaviour.
The police have alleged that Reddy threatened self-harm, displayed weapons, insulted the complainant, demanded multiple relationships, damaged her laptop, created fake social media accounts after being blocked, and allegedly threatened to share private chats and contact her family and colleagues without consent.
During the probe, police also found information suggesting that the accused was allegedly involved in a close relationship with another woman from Andhra Pradesh. Investigators are expected to gather more details regarding the matter during the ongoing custodial questioning.
