India’s challenge in the women’s singles at the Korea Masters received a boost as Tanvi Sharma, Ashmita Chaliha and Rakshitha Ramraj progressed to the quarter-finals on Thursday, while Anmol Kharb and two other Indian shuttlers bowed out after spirited performances.
Anmol Kharb’s campaign ended in the pre-quarterfinals following a hard-fought 21-23, 21-15, 18-21 defeat to Vietnam’s Olympian Vu Thi Trang at the Asan Yi Sun-sin Gymnasium.
The Indian looked set to take the opening game after creating four game points but failed to capitalise, allowing the experienced Vietnamese player to snatch the lead. Anmol responded strongly in the second game, maintaining control after the mid-game interval to level the contest.
She faced an uphill task in the deciding game after falling behind 9-19 but staged a remarkable fightback by winning eight consecutive points. However, Vu Thi Trang held her nerve to close out the match and book her place in the last eight.
Fresh from her title-winning performance at the Taipei Open, Tanvi Sharma continued her impressive form with a 21-16, 17-21, 21-13 victory over fellow Indian Shriyanshi Valishetty.
Tanvi recovered from an early deficit to claim the opening game before Shriyanshi forced a decider by taking the second. In the final game, Tanvi seized control after the interval and comfortably wrapped up the contest in 57 minutes.
Ashmita Chaliha also progressed with a dominant 21-17, 21-6 win over Korea’s Kim Min-ji, while Rakshitha Ramraj defeated Japan’s Manami Suizu 22-20, 21-10 to secure her quarter-final berth.
However, fifth seed Isharani Baruah and Mansi Singh failed to advance. Isharani lost a closely fought contest 21-17, 18-21, 19-21 to Korea’s Kim Min-sun, while Mansi went down 12-21, 21-14, 17-21 against China’s fourth seed Han Qianxi.
