Punjab Police on Thursday intensified its crackdown against organised crime under the ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign, conducting 633 raids at locations linked to gangster associates across the state on the campaign’s 198th day.
Launched by Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav on January 20, 2026, the campaign aims to make Punjab free from gangster networks. Police teams from all districts, in coordination with the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab, have been carrying out targeted operations against criminal elements and their associates.
During the latest operations, police arrested 420 individuals and recovered two weapons. With these arrests, the total number of persons held under the campaign has reached 57,329 since its launch.
Police teams also initiated preventive action against 215 individuals and arrested 11 proclaimed offenders (POs) during the statewide operation.
The Punjab Police reiterated that citizens can share information related to wanted criminals, gangsters and suspicious activities anonymously through the Anti-Gangster Helpline Number 93946-93946.
108 Drug Smugglers Arrested Under ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’
Meanwhile, the Punjab Police continued its anti-drug campaign ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, which entered its 523rd day.
During the latest drive, police arrested 108 drug smugglers and recovered 10.6 kg heroin along with 326 intoxicant pills from their possession.
With these arrests, the total number of drug smugglers arrested under the campaign has reached 75,549 in 523 days.
As part of the state police’s de-addiction and rehabilitation efforts, seven individuals were motivated to undergo treatment and rehabilitation programmes on Thursday.
Punjab Police said both campaigns are being carried forward with the objective of eliminating organised crime, curbing drug trafficking and ensuring a safer environment for the people of the state.
