Security forces have launched a joint search operation in border areas of Jammu and Kathua districts after recovering a damaged police uniform, boots and a rucksack from Bana Chak village in Kathua, prompting heightened vigilance along the International Border.
Officials said the items were found abandoned during a routine search operation. The recovery triggered a security alert, with forces stepping up searches to identify the person to whom the uniform and belongings may have belonged.
Joint teams comprising the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Special Operations Group (SOG), Indian Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Border Security Force (BSF) are participating in the operation.
Search and combing activities have been extended to border sectors of Jammu and Kathua, as well as neighbouring areas, including Samba. Security arrangements along the border have also been tightened.
The latest operation comes amid recurring alerts over suspected movements in the Jammu border belt. Earlier this month, security personnel launched a large-scale search in Kathua’s Karnadi forest area after villagers reported seeing suspected individuals near the border.
In August, an operation was also triggered in the Billawar area of Kathua after unidentified persons reportedly knocked on a villager’s door late at night. The family did not open the door but found the next morning that stored food had been stolen.
Security agencies have also maintained vigilance around water channels, including the Ujjah nallah near Kote Panu and Pundori hamlets, following reports of suspected persons using riverine gaps to move through the area.
Officials have not established who left the recovered items or whether their presence is linked to any security threat.
