Pakistani security forces and elements described by local media as army-backed ‘death squads’ have reportedly suffered casualties in a series of armed attacks in Balochistan, including in Basima, Panjgur and Turbat, according to local sources cited by The Balochistan Post on Thursday.

In Basima, armed men allegedly ambushed a convoy near the Sajid area on Wednesday. Local sources said security personnel suffered casualties and two vehicles were severely damaged. The exchange of fire reportedly continued for more than two hours, after which helicopters arrived to reinforce the forces.

In a separate incident, a convoy of Pakistani forces travelling in the Gwargo area of Panjgur was targeted on Wednesday. Three vehicles were passing through the area at the time, the report said.

Meanwhile, gunmen reportedly targeted members of an army-backed ‘death squad’ in the Noduz area of Turbat on Thursday morning. Prolonged firing was heard in the area, but details of casualties in the incident were not immediately available.

Authorities had not released official details about casualties in the reported attacks.

Earlier this week, the Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) claimed responsibility for killing more than 80 Pakistani military and intelligence personnel in a series of attacks on a Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) camp and other military and police installations in Balochistan’s Gwadar district.

In a statement reported by The Balochistan Post, BLF spokesperson Major Gwahram Baloch said the fatalities during the group’s ‘Operation Almas’ included a Military Intelligence (MI) captain, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) officers and Special Services Group (SSG) personnel. He also claimed that dozens of others were seriously injured. These figures and claims could not be independently verified.

According to the spokesperson, the operation began on October 22 with a vehicle-borne suicide attack at the entrance to the FWO camp. He claimed the explosion destroyed the main gate and nearby positions, allowing other fighters to enter the compound.

The statement alleged that BLF fighters then stormed an ISI office, killing an officer and five other personnel. In a separate clash at another office, six MI personnel, including a captain, were reportedly killed.

The spokesperson further claimed that 21 personnel died during fighting in a multi-storey residential barracks. He said Pakistani forces subsequently engaged in nine more clashes overnight as they attempted to regain control of the compound, followed by mortar and artillery fire.

According to the BLF account, a fresh offensive involving additional troops and armoured vehicles was repelled the following morning, leaving around 13 personnel dead and two armoured vehicles destroyed. The group also claimed its fighters shot down four quadcopters and two surveillance drones, while its sniper team killed six military personnel during the operation.

Gwahram Baloch accused the FWO and other development institutions of serving Pakistan’s military and commercial interests in Balochistan. He said the group opposed Pakistan’s control over the province and what it described as the exploitation of its coastline and natural resources.

The spokesperson also warned that the BLF would continue targeting projects including the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Reko Diq and Saindak, claiming that projects undertaken without the consent of the Baloch people would remain vulnerable to attacks.
