Chandigarh, October 29, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Government agencies have procured 101.96 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of paddy from mandis across Punjab, while payments amounting to ₹20,713.24 crore have been credited to the accounts of more than 4.71 lakh farmers.

Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak shared these figures during a meeting convened to review the ongoing paddy procurement season in the state.

The minister said that paddy lifting had reached 70 LMT, accounting for approximately 86 per cent of the quantity assessed against the 72-hour lifting cycle.

More than 2,500 mandis are operational across the state to ensure the smooth conduct of procurement. Farmers are being paid the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹2,461 per quintal for their produce.

Kataruchak expressed confidence that Punjab would comfortably achieve its procurement target of 180 LMT this season.

The minister also directed departmental officers to ensure that paddy brought from outside Punjab was not sold in the state’s mandis. He stressed the need for strict vigilance to protect the interests of the farming community and prevent unauthorised procurement of outside produce.

“The State Government is duty-bound to procure every single bale of grain produced so laboriously by the farmers,” the minister said.

Principal Secretary, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Rahul Tiwari; Director Varinder Kumar Sharma; Additional Director Dr. Anjuman Bhaskar; Ajayveer Singh Sarao; and General Manager (Finance) Sarvesh Kumar were also present at the meeting.
