Srinagar, October 30, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
National Conference MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi has invited the public to attend a programme in Budgam on November 3, with posters describing the event as a “Resignation Announcement” and signalling a major political statement by the Srinagar Lok Sabha member.
The invitation, circulated in Mehdi’s name, announces the programme at Behisht-e-Zehra Park near the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Budgam. It carries the message “Voice of the Voiceless” and invites members of the public to attend.
Although the poster points to a resignation-related announcement, it does not specify whether Mehdi intends to quit the National Conference (NC), the Lok Sabha, or both. The exact circumstances behind the proposed move have also not been disclosed.
Mehdi has remained at odds with the NC leadership since his election to the Lok Sabha in the 2024 general elections. He has criticised the party for allegedly failing to fulfil promises made to voters in its election manifesto.
His differences with the party were also evident during the Budgam Assembly by-election last year, when he stayed away from the campaign of NC candidate Aga Syed Mehmood.
The by-election became necessary after NC vice-president Omar Abdullah, who had won from both Budgam and Ganderbal, retained the latter seat and resigned from Budgam. NC candidate Aga Syed Mehmood subsequently lost the contest to Peoples Democratic Party candidate Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi.
Speculation has also emerged that Ruhullah Mehdi could join the Congress after the proposed announcement. However, neither the MP nor the Congress party has confirmed any such possibility.
The November 3 programme is expected to clarify his next political move.
