Former Assistant Commissioner and social worker Rajiv Kaushal will undertake a cycling march from Kashmir to Kanyakumari to spread the message that every individual should support at least one underprivileged child by providing complete education, including higher studies, free of cost.
The initiative has been launched by the Patiala-based Sheila Alipuria Charitable Society, which has been working in the field of social service for several decades. Municipal Corporation Patiala Commissioner Pooja Syal Grewal flagged off the campaign at a special event.
Ajay Alipuria, chief patron of the society and a senior chartered accountant, said the objective was to take the organisation’s message across the country and eventually reach people worldwide. During the journey, Kaushal will stop at different locations to interact with people and encourage them to take responsibility for the education of children from financially disadvantaged backgrounds.
Alipuria said the society has been providing completely free higher education to around 50 students pursuing chartered accountancy courses. Every year, it also identifies meritorious children from government schools who need financial support and adopts them to ensure that they receive complete education, including higher studies, without financial barriers.
He said the society wanted to encourage a wider culture of individual responsibility in education, with every person supporting at least one needy child during their lifetime.
“Our society has provided and continues to provide free higher education to many children. We want this message to reach every individual so that they adopt at least one underprivileged child and ensure complete higher education for them,” Alipuria said, adding that the organisation would continue its social service initiatives.
Several prominent personalities attended the flag-off event, including former Superintendent of Police K.K. Pathay, industrialist Naresh Gupta, Dr Bhagwant Singh, social worker Sanjay Singla, Amrish Bansal of Patiala Steel, Satpal Goyal, retired director Jatinder Goyal, Naresh Setia, Dr Brijesh Modi, Gitesh, Managing Director of GK Institute, real estate entrepreneur Kunal Kumar, retired IRS officer Pradeep Goyal, Deepanshu Singla and senior chartered accountant Abhishek Gupta.
