Washington, October 29, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Former US President Barack Obama and President Donald Trump traded political attacks at campaign rallies in Georgia and Ohio on Wednesday, five days before the November 3 midterm elections. Obama criticised the administration over the Iran war and trade policies, while Trump mocked his predecessor and defended Indian-American Republican Vivek Ramaswamy’s campaign for Ohio governor.

Campaigning in the Atlanta area for Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff and gubernatorial candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms, Obama accused Trump of starting an unnecessary war that had driven up energy and other prices.

“Contrary to the promises and statements and declarations that were made seven months ago, this war is not over. It’s still going on, which means you are not getting any relief anytime soon,” Obama said.

He also ridiculed Trump’s trade dispute with Canada, joking that the United States was waging a trade war against a country known for maple syrup and comedian Martin Short. Obama urged Georgians to vote early before the Friday deadline.

At a rally in Chillicothe, Ohio, Trump hit back at Obama’s criticism of renovations at the White House, saying he had personally paid for the work and improved the building’s condition.

Trump also questioned Obama’s record of campaigning for Democratic candidates, referring to Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris. He criticised the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement, describing it as one of the “dumbest deals” he had seen.

The President also defended Ramaswamy’s controversial advertisement featuring the estranged mother of his Democratic opponent, Amy Acton. Trump argued that the candidate should not be held responsible for the mother’s remarks. NBC4, however, noted that the woman did not say in the advertisement that Acton had lied about Ramaswamy.

The rallies came amid national polling showing Democratic candidates ahead on the generic congressional ballot. An NPR/PBS News/Marist survey conducted on October 19-20 gave Democrats a 52-44 per cent lead among likely voters. A Harvard CAPS/Harris poll conducted on October 24-26 put the margin at 52-48 per cent among voters.

Several Indian-American candidates are also contesting the November 3 elections. Besides Ramaswamy, Indian-American members of the House of Representatives, including Ro Khanna, Pramila Jayapal, Raja Krishnamoorthi, Ami Bera, Shri Thanedar and Suhas Subramanyam, are seeking re-election.

Nithya Raman is running for Mayor of Los Angeles, while Saritha Komatireddy is the Republican nominee for New York Attorney General.
