Chennai, October 26, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Cyclone warning signal No. 2 has been hoisted at nine ports across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry as Cyclone Arnab strengthens over the Bay of Bengal and moves towards the Andhra Pradesh coast.
The warning indicates the possibility of gale-force winds reaching 62-88 kmph within 24 hours, posing risks to life and property. Fishermen who are currently at sea have been advised to return to shore immediately as conditions deteriorate.
The affected ports in Tamil Nadu are Chennai, Ennore, Kattupalli, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Pamban and Thoothukudi. The warning has also been issued at Puducherry and Karaikal.
The weather system developed from a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal before intensifying into a cyclonic storm on Monday. It was located over the east-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining west-central waters, according to the available weather information.
Cyclone Arnab is expected to move northwestwards and could intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm on Tuesday before crossing the Andhra Pradesh coast. The precise timing and location of landfall have not been specified.
The system is forecast to bring rainfall to parts of Andhra Pradesh as it approaches the coast. The areas affected and the intensity of rainfall will depend on the cyclone’s movement and further development.
The available forecast does not indicate rainfall directly associated with Cyclone Arnab over Tamil Nadu. Rainfall already recorded in the state has also been described as unrelated to the system.
Despite the absence of a direct cyclone-related rainfall forecast for Tamil Nadu, port warnings have been issued as a precaution against hazardous conditions at sea.
Fishing communities along the affected coastline have been alerted, with authorities urging fishermen to heed the warnings and return to shore without delay.
The situation remains under watch as the cyclone continues moving towards Andhra Pradesh.
