An AI-generated video showing Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma dancing to South Korean singer PSY’s global hit “Gangnam Style” has gone viral, crossing 3.3 million views on Instagram.
Shared on Sarma’s official Instagram account, the clip features the Chief Minister alongside two Cabinet colleagues, Agriculture Minister Pijush Hazarika and Finance Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, performing the song’s signature horse-riding dance moves.
The digitally created video presents the three leaders in an unconventional setting, departing from the political rallies and campaign performances usually associated with Sarma’s public appearances.
The clip has attracted widespread online attention, highlighting how AI-generated content is increasingly being used to create entertaining and unconventional portrayals of public figures on social media.
Sarma has previously drawn attention for his energetic appearances at election rallies and campaign programmes, with videos of him dancing to political campaign music frequently circulating online. The latest clip, however, places him and his ministerial colleagues in the context of an international pop-culture phenomenon.
Released in 2012, PSY’s “Gangnam Style” became a worldwide sensation, with its catchy electronic music, humorous video and distinctive choreography helping turn the horse-riding dance into a globally recognised trend.
The viral video also reflects the growing intersection of politics, artificial intelligence and online entertainment. AI tools can create digitally manipulated scenes featuring public figures, often generating significant engagement across social media platforms.
However, such videos may not depict real events, making it important for viewers to distinguish AI-generated representations from authentic footage.
