Hindu Sena national president Vishnu Gupta has approached the Delhi Police seeking registration of an FIR against Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge over his controversial remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late father at a public event in Patna.
In a complaint submitted to the Delhi Police Commissioner on Monday, Gupta alleged that Kharge used abusive language against the Prime Minister and his family during a Congress programme on Sunday. He urged the police to register a case and initiate legal action in accordance with the law.
Gupta cited the phrase “Modi ka baap bhi jayega”, alleging that the remarks were disrespectful to the Prime Minister and could hurt public sentiments and disturb social harmony. He also pointed to the circulation of videos of the incident on television and social media.
The controversy erupted during Kharge’s address at an event organised at Bapu Sabhagar in Patna to mark the birth anniversary of Bihar’s first Chief Minister, Sri Krishna Singh. According to reports of the incident, a person in the audience interrupted the speech, saying that Modi would not leave power. Kharge responded with the contentious remark, repeating it several times.
The episode has triggered political criticism, with another complaint reportedly filed by BJP state working committee member Krishna Kumar at Patna’s Kotwali police station.
Kumar sought an investigation into Kharge’s statement and urged the police to examine video footage, news reports and other evidence to establish the exact wording and context of the remarks.
The incident also reportedly led to a confrontation in which Congress workers were seen in videos confronting and assaulting the person who interrupted the speech.
The Delhi Police complaint seeks action against Kharge over the alleged remarks. The filing of a complaint does not, by itself, establish that an offence has been committed.
